What Is The Process To Change Accounting Firms?

After we have the opportunity to discuss your tax and accounting affairs with you, and you make the decision to change to M & M Group, the process of changing accounting firms is relatively simple.

  • We write to your previous accountant to advise them that we have been requested to handle your tax and accounting affairs in the future and to check with them whether there is any ethical reason why this should not occur.
  •  We also ask them to forward relevant records to our office. These will include the previous year’s tax return, financial statements and also the cost base records for investments you have purchased. It may also include other additional records depending on your situation. Your accountant should also forward to us any original documentation that they hold on your behalf, such as trust deeds, company constitutions etc.
  • Once we receive correspondence back from your previous accountant to advise that they have no ethical objection to our appointment, we will contact the Tax Office via the Tax Agent’s Portal to advise them that we will be your Registered Tax Agents going forward. This will give us access to all of your Activity Statements which have been lodged, all of your Income Tax Account activity and Activity Statement Account activity, and this will also give us the ability to liaise with the Tax Office regarding matters on your behalf.

So as you can see, the process if relatively straightforward. Contact Us today for an appointment to discuss your move.
